Portico Church

The purchase of more than 62 acres between Polo Grounds Road and the South Fork of the Rivanna River in Charlottesville offered Portico Church a permanent home, room for growth, and expanded ministry opportunities. Development of the building, parking areas, and landscape design all rely on an intimate understanding of how the ministries of Portico operate; what they need, who they serve, and how do they do it. To initiate this information gathering, Ministry leaders throughout the congregation were invited to focus group gatherings where they each thoroughly described the details of their ministry. The main areas of focus for these conversations were: Worship, Fellowship, Adult and Child Education, Administration, and Outreach. Portico’s new 62-acre home presents extensive resources and opportunities to minister to individuals, families, the church community, and the surrounding neighborhoods. In this way, the landscape itself will supplement and expand the reach of Portico’s Vision and Mission.
