Taro joined BRW in 2021 with an impressive professional background that combines nonprofit work and architectural training. His work engages political, economic, and social systems in service of making beautiful, exceptional housing for all.
Taro’s previous experience ranges from research initiatives to international design competitions to professional practices based in San Francisco, New York City, and now, Charlottesville. His values around equitable and inclusive planning and affordable housing have been a through-line of his career, and his nonprofit and community organizing experience have shaped him to lead the affordable housing studio at brwarchitects.
Taro is a licensed Architect and Senior Associate at BRW. He is interested in the process of design from policy and planning all the way through design and construction. Taro received his Master of Architecture degree from the University of Virginia with a certificate in Real Estate Design and Development. He also holds a B.S. and A.B. from the University of Chicago.
Taro lives in Crozet, Virginia in an old farm house with his wife, Suzannah, their daughters, Rosemary and Wilhelmina, and their two dogs Merle and Patience. He currently serves on the Albemarle County Architectural Review Board.
